About Dr. Shagun Walia
Compassionate Care Is What We Provide
Dr. Shagun Walia is a Pediatric Endocrinologist who has worked over past 11 years in Institutes of National and International fame. She stepped into Medicine with her MBBS in Government Medical College, Patiala (Gold Medalist in 2 Professional years). Following this, she did her MD in Pediatrics at Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, Manipal University, Karnataka.
She then did her Senior Residency, working on her clinical accumen further for around 2.5 years in Institutes like Lady Hardinge Medical College, Delhi, an year in NICU in GMC, Patiala and around 8 months in Medanta, The Medicity, Gurgaon. By this time, she had developed passion for Pediatric Endocrinology.
Thereafter, she cleared ISPAE entrance exam to do Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship at the oldest, one of the most renowned, state of the art Pediatric Endocrinology Divisions in the country at Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital for children, Mumbai (Est. 1928) under Dr. Sudha Rao Chandrashekhar.
The institute caters to a huge load of Pediatric Endocrinology OPD, IPD, Inpatient referral services where she got hands on experience with an exorbitant variety of clinical diagnosis, specialised endocrine stimulation tests, treatment and academics and clinical discussion of cases with stalwarts in Pediatric Endocrinology like Dr. Sudha Rao, Dr. Prisca Colaco, Dr. Rajesh Joshi, Dr. Prema Vartakavi.
During her tenure t BJWHC, she also had exposure to weekly Cancer Survivor Endocrine clinic at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. This is an area of Pediatric Endocrinology which Dr. Shagun has special interest in. Here she was involved in peri-operative, post Cancer treatment care of children with endocrine tumours (Adrenal, Parathyroid, Pheochromocytoma, Cushing disease etc), endocrinopathies due to chemotherapy effect / permanent effects due to effect of cranial irradiation / surgery on Hypothalamus-Pituitary apparatus and radiation / secondary effects of thyroid gland. In addition to this, she had short posting during her tenure in Deptt.
Of Endocrinology, KEM Hospital, Mumbai and Endocrinology Clinic at Nowrosjee Wadia Maternity hospital, Mumbai.
With the above mentioned experience in Pediatrics, Pediatric endocrinology, Dr. Shagun has the maturity to diagnose complicated endocrine issues wherein there is interplay of systemic and multiple hormonal influences and she has the expertise to detangle the interaction of various hormones from each other by advanced diagnostics which include expert clinical skills, static and dynamic endocrine testing, radiological advances, genetic testing wherever applicable, advanced treatments which in totality translate into good patient outcomes, friendly kid-parent-doctor relationship, better psychological health and improved quality of life of kids with chronic hormonal disorders.
She also believes that parent and doctor work as a team for children and hence, gives detailed counseling and supportive care to parents on various issues like nature of disease, diagnosis and treatment.
